Heinrich Böll Foundation Washington DC Development & Digital Policy Internship 2024

Applications are open for the Heinrich Böll Foundation Washington DC Development & Digital Policy 2024. The Intern will work closely with the program directors for Digital Policy and Global Development Policy. The programs focus on transatlantic dialogues and the Global South. Areas of work may include artificial intelligence, inclusion and sustainability in the development agenda, and human rights. The Intern will work from our office in downtown Washington, DC.

This internship is well suited for students or recent graduates interested in global development and digital policy with a background in public policy, international relations, law, economics, development studies or a related field. Applicants should be self-motivated and independent workers.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and write about topical issues and current events
  • Prepare substantive and logistical support for events, tours, and speaker series
  • Assist with front desk duties (e.g. answer telephones, respond to inquiries)
  • Manage contact databases
  • Develop communications strategies and social media content
  • Update Heinrich Böll Foundation Washington DC’s website and blogs
  • Complete a capstone project on a topic of your choosing, which can include a policy paper, expert interview, explanatory video script, or series of blog posts

Benefits

  • A monthly stipend of $700 for full-time positions.
  • Five paid vacation days per three months of internship.
  • For interns not based in the US, the Foundation will sponsor a J-1 US visa and cover the visa costs, if necessary.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must have a genuine interest in the values and mission of the Foundation.
  • Experience in digital or development policy, including policies relating to the US, EU, and Global South
  • Competent command of English (German is not a requirement).
  • Commitment to working full-time for 3 to 6 months (part-time will be considered on a case-by-case basis).
  • At least 2 years of university-level experience.
  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program or are a recent bachelor’s degree recipient. They will not accept applications from students who recently received master’s degrees, are enrolled in a PhD program, or are mid-career.

They will accept applications until January 10, 2024. The internship will begin between April and May 2024.
